Research

Research trials are VOLUNTARY participation. Participants are compensated a nominal amount for participation. This may include FREE medication, FREE physician assessment and FREE study related procedures, such as pulmonary funtion testing (PFT), skin testing, EKG and laboratory evaluation. This is a 12-week trial comparing the safety and efficacy of Symbicort twice daily versus budesonide twice daily in adult and adolescent (> 12 years) African American subjects with asthma. A 28-week study for persons ages 12-75 years with uncontrolled moderate to severe allergic asthma evaluating the effect of subcutaneous Omalizumab (XOLAIR) on markers of airway impairment (ACT "Asthma Control Test" questionnaire). Participants are assessed every 2-4 weeks depending on the Omalizumab dosing schedule. Reimbursement of $32 at each visit will be compensated for each participant's time and transportation to study related visits. (For ages 7 to 17) The APPLES study is a phase IV, 5-year trial assessing the long-term safety of Tacrolimus (Protopic) ointment for the treatment of Atopic Dermatitis. Participants are seen every 6 months at NO CHARGE and a $10 gift card is given for each set of phone questions that are completed and returned to the sponsor. The PEER program is an observational trial for children with eczema (also known as atopic dermatitis) and who is using or has previously used Elidel cream for the treatment of eczema. Participants must have used Elidel for at least 42 days within the 6 month period prior to enrollment to be eligible. Follow up surveys are completed every 6 months for 10 years and participants are compensated $25 within 2-4 weeks of completing/returning each survey.
